Ports & Airports

Livestock Ports & Airports: Where Your Goats and Sheep Depart and Arrive

Every livestock shipment starts and ends at a port or an airport, and the choice of both affects cost, stress on the animals and the time it takes to clear. Livestock ports and airports are not interchangeable: only some handle live animals, and many countries allow animals to enter only through designated points. We choose departure and arrival points with you, so your goats and sheep move smoothly from our farm to yours.

How We Choose Departure and Arrival Points

Road distance

A shorter road leg means less time on the truck and less stress. From our partner farm in Aurelle, France, animals travel by road to the chosen port or airport.

Approved facilities

We look for terminals with proper ramps, resting pens, ventilation and access to a veterinarian for inspection.

Destination rules

Many countries designate the ports and airports where live animals may enter. We match your route to the points your authorities allow.

Schedules and season

Frequency of sailings and flights matters, and so does weather. We avoid long waits that leave animals standing in holding areas.

The best choice is rarely the nearest one. A port with a weekly sailing may be worse than a slightly farther airport with daily flights, so we compare options before we recommend one.

What Happens at a Port

Animals arrive at the port and are held in resting pens while documents are checked. A veterinary inspection follows, then loading takes place under supervision up a suitable ramp. Calm handling at this stage is one of the biggest factors in how well animals travel. Read more in our sea transport guide.

What Happens at an Airport

At the airport cargo terminal, crates are weighed, labelled and checked against the airline's live animal rules. Documents are verified before the crates are loaded as live animal cargo. See our air transport guide for the full process.

Livestock Ports and Airports: Questions

Can I choose my own arrival port or airport?

Yes, within the points your authorities allow. Tell us your preferred city or port in the quote form and we will check that it can handle live animals.

Do all airports accept live animals?

No. Only airports with suitable cargo facilities and airlines that carry live animals can be used, so we confirm both before booking.

Who handles the animals at the port?

Port and terminal staff handle loading, supported by our team and your agent. We coordinate the schedule so someone is ready at each end.

Will the animals wait long at the terminal?

We plan arrival times to keep waiting short, with resting pens and water available if a delay does occur.
