Buying guide

Is miniature livestock right for you?

Miniature livestock fits properties where full-size animals would be too much: smaller pastures, mixed use land and hobby farms. They need less feed and are easier to handle, but they still need good fencing, shelter, clean water and veterinary care.

Most miniature species are herd animals and do best with company of their own kind. Plan for at least two, and tell us your acreage so we can suggest the right species and numbers.

Before you buy miniatures

  • Match the species to your acreage and fencing
  • Plan for company: most miniatures should not live alone
  • Check local rules for keeping livestock on your property
  • Ask for health records and registration papers
  • Confirm shipping or pickup before you commit
