Export Documentation

Livestock Export Documentation: The Paperwork Behind Every Shipment

A healthy animal cannot cross a border without the right papers. Livestock export documentation proves where an animal came from, that it is healthy and that your country has agreed to receive it. Missing or inconsistent documents are one of the most common reasons shipments are delayed, so we prepare every document with care and check them against your destination's rules before the animals travel.

The Document Timeline, Step by Step

2. RecordsTesting and vaccination completed
3. PermitYour importer secures the import permit
4. CertificateIssued close to departure
5. ClearancePapers checked at arrival

Health certificates are normally issued shortly before shipping and are valid for a limited window, so timing matters. Everything else should be ready earlier, so the certificate can be issued the moment the animals are cleared to leave.

Common Mistakes That Delay Shipments

  • Mismatched details. A name, address or animal identification that differs between documents.
  • Expired tests. Laboratory results that fall outside the window your country allows.
  • No import permit. Permits are often required before the animals can even be booked.
  • Wrong entry point. Arriving at a port or airport that is not approved for live animals.

Livestock Export Documentation: Questions

Which documents do I need to import livestock?

The exact list depends on your country, but it normally includes an import permit, a health certificate, test and vaccination records and transport documents. We tell you what the exporting side provides.

Do registered animals need extra paperwork?

Registered breeding stock also travels with breed association papers and pedigree details, which are useful for customs and for your own records.

How early should I apply for an import permit?

As early as possible, because permits can take time. Ask your importer to apply as soon as you accept the quote.

Can you check my documents before shipping?

Yes. We review the documents against your destination's rules before the animals are booked to travel, so problems are found early.

Not sure what paperwork you need?

Tell us your destination and we will outline it.
