Livestock Starter Packages: Goat and Sheep Starter Herds and Flocks

Starting with livestock is easier when someone helps you choose the right animals. Our livestock starter packages group healthy, compatible goats or sheep into a ready-made starter herd or flock for beginners, small farms and homesteads, with advice on setup and, if you need it, shipping. Every group is tailored to your goals, space and country, so the exact animals are confirmed in your quote.

Why Start with a Group, Not a Single Animal

Goats and sheep are herd animals. A single animal on its own is usually stressed and noisy, so we recommend starting with at least two, and often three or more. A group also gives you breeding options, backup if one animal is unwell, and animals that settle quickly because they have company. A starter package takes the guesswork out of choosing animals that suit each other and suit you.

Before Your Animals Arrive

  • Fencing. Secure, goat-proof or sheep-proof fencing is the most important job before arrival.
  • Shelter. A dry, draft-free shelter that protects from wind, rain and heat.
  • Clean water. Fresh water every day, in containers that cannot be tipped.
  • Feed and forage. Good pasture or hay, plus suitable feed for the species and age.
  • Minerals. Goats and sheep have different needs, and sheep are sensitive to copper, so use a mineral made for the right species.
  • A veterinarian. Find one who treats goats or sheep before you need one.
